Tips for Keeping Your Skin Healthy While Quarantining During Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Most people are stuck at home, anxiously awaiting the Coronavirus situation to get under control. But just because you are at home, that doesn’t mean that it’s ok to slack off on your skincare routine.

When you are spending most of your time indoors and find yourself under stress, you may notice that your skin has lost some of it’s natural glow, even if you aren’t around outdoor pollutants or covering your face with makeup.

So what’s the number one task you need to prioritize? You need to MOISTURIZE!

Moisturizing isn’t just for your face. It’s for your whole body. And at a time like this when we are encouraged to wash our hands several times a day, you really need to replenish the moisture in your hands with lotion, or even olive oil or coconut oil. It’s also a good idea to treat your feet. Applying oil and then covering your hands with gloves or covering your feet with socks for 15 to 20 minutes a day can really work wonders.

Plus, in addition to using moisturizer on your face, it’s also a good idea to incorporate toner and serum. The more layers of hydration you have, the more plump and hydrated your skin will be.

And even if you aren’t wearing makeup, because you are just lounging around, it’s still important to wash your face in the morning when you wake up, and in the evening before you go to bed. Exfoliating a few times a week is also key in preventing oil, bacteria, debris, and dead skin to build up, as this can lead to breakouts. And at a time of stress, you’re going to be more susceptible to breakouts as well, which is even more reason to take exfoliation seriously.

Shorter, more tepid showers can be of benefit as too. Longer, hot showers risk stripping away your skin’s natural layer of oil. You would then apply lotion after to seal in moisture.

Lastly, drink plenty of water and get a lot of sleep…because when you don’t get enough of both of these, it affects how you feel on the inside and shows how you feel on the outside.
